This Sunday, I am boycotting the Super Bowl because of the Ad funded by Focus on the Family. As many of you know, FOTF is headed by rightwing whack job James Dobson who once claimed that a wife must submit to her husband's authority, discounts the theory of global warming, advocates spanking of children of up to eight years of age, and even criticized Sponge Bob for appearing in the We Are Family Foundation video promoting tolerance.
The ad, set to run on during the Super Bowl on CBS Corporate Bull Shit, features Tim Tebow and his mother. According to my understanding, it tells the story of Ms. Tebow who was missionary and taken ill while pregnant. As the story goes, even though her illness was life threatening, she decided against the physician’s advice to abort the fetus. The result: The future quarterback of the Florida Gators and hall of famer was born. The apparent message: Expectant mothers: disregard your own health and risk to your life for the sake of the fetus; you might just be giving birth to the next Einstein I wonder how many ill expectant mothers made that same decision and gave birth to the Ted Bundy’s of the world (Incidentally, he was a young Republican).
Fortunately, Planned Parenthood is fighting back this weekend with a public service announcement featuring former Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner and NFL player Sean James. They will be responding to the Tebow ad.
My protest is not so much that CBS opted to run this ad, but that as far as I know they have chosen not to air an opposing view. If you would like to join me in my boycott of the Super Bowl, and wish to express your views to CBS, you made do so here.
